Kung Lee has a long history in Hog Kong the shop started during the 1960’s, which is a long time ago. It is my favourite sugarcane juice shop in Hong Kong.
What I like about Kung Lee is that the sugarcane juice is very sweet and yet you won’t feel like they add sugar in it to make it sweet. Kung Lee’s sugar can juice are all freshly squeezed from the sugar cane each day. Although it is very, but you can feel that the sugar is all nature. Sugar cane contains cane sugar, glucose and fructose, which are all naturally formed in the sugar cane. After I went to Kung Lee and drank sugar cane juice from another shop I can really tell the difference as the other one taste really fake, not real pure sugar cane juice. They must have added some sugar in it to make it ‘sweet’.
I will strongly recommend you to try the other product made out of sugar cane juice, which is sugar cane jelly. It is made out of sugar cane juice and jelly powder to make it jellified. It is not as sweet as drinking the sugar cane juice itself, and the jelly is really sticky due to the high sugar content of the sugar cane juice.
I always have a question in my head, why do the sugar cane juice taste so sweet but not at all bitter? I finally found the answer when I talked to the shop owner. He said that it is because they have chopped off the skin of the sugar cane, which makes it bitter. They have also steamed the sugar cane before squeezing it. The process of steaming it is really important as it helps to concentrate the sugarcane, making the juice sweet without adding any sugar in it.

Kung Lee have not renovate since the opening the shop, so you can see the unique Hong Kong 60’s design in the shop. Out side of the door there is still a 60’s-70’s advertisement poster placed outside the shop. By the look of the shop we can know that it has a long long history.
