Silly Translation

Yesterday I went to this hot pot restaurant, I requested for a ticking paper so I can order food. It is really funny and silly as the translation of the food from Chinese to English is really weird.

For example, it should be big fish head but instead they translated to Big Head. Another example is 牛柏叶 should be cows stomach but instead it is translated to albert yip.

I also made a chocolate in a mug, it was quick and simple, it can be baked with an normal oven.I will recommend it to make it for your lover or family member as it is quick and simple. I forgot to take the picture of it but you could check out the link

    Homemade cute Water Melon Dessert.

Hi all, I haven’t update my blog for quite a long period of time as I am busy this few weeks I might be posting less/ none of my blogs during this period of time. Okay so hope you guys enjoy my blog and bookmark it.

I found this small little scoop thing that can scope small balls in my kitchen. I recently just bought a big watermelon; therefore I decided to make some watermelon balls with the cute scope. Its like a mini version of Ice cream scope and I have no clue where I bought it.

I wanted to make nice full round ball of watermelon so after I scoped enough I will have to clear the scraps so that I can have a new surface to start off. There will be watermelon juice at the bottom of course. I poured the watermelon juice and left it in the freezer to chill, nice little drink in a hot day right? The scrap watermelon is not wasted, it is in a bowl ready for me to eat it after I finish all the scoping.

It is a nice little dessert when u put some canned fruit in it. It’s like a mini fruit salad but the main fruit is watermelon and it is presented neatly. So I didn’t take pictures for my final product but I did take pictures for the watermelon scoping part.
The awesome scoop

Traditional Street candy shop (Wan Chai)

      Traditional Street candy shop

This is a really interesting shop I found in the corner of this street. Everyone coming to Hong Kong should come to this street not just for food but partially culture. This street is full of street store selling many different things. Swimsuits, shoes and there are a lot of toy shop here, so if you are searching for toys you may find it here most likely.

Okay, back to the candy shop. I found this candy shop interesting as it sells traditional Chinese candies; there is even dried fruit. The dried fruit I would recommend is mango as it is sweet and taste. The price of the candies is by the weight of the candies you buy. So there is no fix price like 10 candies for $20. The other thing you can find is dried beans, peanuts and other traditional small treats.

My Favorite brand udon(Japanese noodle)

My Favorite brand udon(Japanese noodle)

This Particular brand of udon is my favourite. I found this brand in a restaurant I always go, they have this delicious udon noodle and I asked them what is its name.

Some background information of udon, it is made with flour and water, it is really popular in Japan, it is usually companied with a simple soup, to increase the flavour of the flour.

This udon is already cooked and is frozen udon unlike the raw udon normally found in super markets. You would have to place it in the kitchen until it is in room temperature so that it can heat up faster.

This brand of udon is good as it is really flexible, I can’t really bite the udon off. So I will have to eat the whole line of udon. It also has a unique wheat flavor in it.

It is one of my favourite food to eat when I am hungry, as I don’t want to eat instant noodles, as it is not healthy.

Kam Fung Restaurant, 金鳳

Kam Fung Restaurant is a typical place to have a Hong Kong style high tea. It is famous for its unique and traditional food and Beverages.

Every time I go to Kam Fung I will for sure to order 2 things, Milk tea and chicken pie. First Milk tea is a drink that could be found in Hong Kong and not in anywhere else. Lets talk a little bit about how milk tea is created. Milk tea is created during the 70’s when workers is still drinking tea, they saw the British adding milk into their drink (coffee), therefore they also added milk in the tea. They found out that it taste really good, and it is kept until now.

What is interesting about the milk tea in Kam Fung is that if you order cold milk tea, there is no ice in it. There are 2 reasons for this. Firstly, the cup of milk tea won’t be half full with ice. Secondly, when the ice melts it will dilute the milk tea and by putting the milk tea in the refrigerator they won’t have to add ice and it is chilled. A little secret of how to make a cup of milk tea is the black & white milk. It is made in Holland but you can’t find it in Holland because it is only for Hong Kong. You can find a single can of black & white milk in the market as it only receive orders from restaurants.

Another food I will recommend is the chicken pie, it has a crusty surface and the filling is full of chicken and ham, which makes it taste really good.

Kung Lee, 公利

                                                                           Kung Lee, 公利

Kung Lee has a long history in Hog Kong the shop started during the 1960’s, which is a long time ago. It is my favourite sugarcane juice shop in Hong Kong.

What I like about Kung Lee is that the sugarcane juice is very sweet and yet you won’t feel like they add sugar in it to make it sweet. Kung Lee’s sugar can juice are all freshly squeezed from the sugar cane each day. Although it is very, but you can feel that the sugar is all nature. Sugar cane contains cane sugar, glucose and fructose, which are all naturally formed in the sugar cane. After I went to Kung Lee and drank sugar cane juice from another shop I can really tell the difference as the other one taste really fake, not real pure sugar cane juice. They must have added some sugar in it to make it ‘sweet’.

I will strongly recommend you to try the other product made out of sugar cane juice, which is sugar cane jelly. It is made out of sugar cane juice and jelly powder to make it jellified. It is not as sweet as drinking the sugar cane juice itself, and the jelly is really sticky due to the high sugar content of the sugar cane juice.

I always have a question in my head, why do the sugar cane juice taste so sweet but not at all bitter? I finally found the answer when I talked to the shop owner. He said that it is because they have chopped off the skin of the sugar cane, which makes it bitter. They have also steamed the sugar cane before squeezing it. The process of steaming it is really important as it helps to concentrate the sugarcane, making the juice sweet without adding any sugar in it.

Kung Lee have not renovate since the opening the shop, so you can see the unique Hong Kong 60’s design in the shop. Out side of the door there is still a 60’s-70’s advertisement poster placed outside the shop. By the look of the shop we can know that it has a long long history.

Daruma Ramen House, 達磨

                                                      Daruma Ramen House, 達磨
This is my favourite ramen restaurant in Hong Kong. A little back ground info; 2 brother and sister open this shop. They are the reseller of the brand Paul Frank in Hong Kong; they always go to Japan therefore they can always eat traditional Japanese ramen. One day there were thinking why can’t we bring this back to Hong Kong, they tried many ramen shop in Japan in order to find the most traditional shop and to invite the chef to come to Hong Kong for there Ramen shop. The noodle they used is made in Japan and it will be shipped to Hong Kong every other day so that the noodle is still fresh

The reason why this shop is really famous in Hong Kong is because of its pork bone base soup. It is really concentrated and grease and yet it does not taste bad. It uses around 50kg of pork bone for 100 bowl of soup, you can imagine how concentrated the soup is. After drinking a sip of the soup I feel like I have just put a greasy lip-gloss.

This ramen shop is named Daruma Ramen House is because of the daruma statue it means good luck in Japan.

Every time I go to daruma I have to queue up, the first time I visit there I waited for 2 hours but after eating it I think that my time queuing up was not wasted. Daruma gives numbered ticket for each people if they now there are going to run out of soup they will stop giving the numbered tickets.

There shop is really small, around 18-20 people can be inside at a time. Therefore the waiting time will be longer. I really like the design of the chopstick holder.

I will recommend you to order R8, it includes a half boiled egg, 2 piece of meat and 2 slices of thin pork, the soup is the traditional pork bone soup, you can choose spicy but I recommend you to choose the traditional one. It cost HKD$85, which is quite expensive for a bowl of ramen in Hong Kong but I think this totally worth it, counting in its effort making the soup, and the amount of ingredient in R8.

I will give Daruma Noodle House a good 9/10
